Born July 18th, 1918 in the South Eastern area of South-Africa, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela is one of the most important people in contemporary history, considered by many a warrior for freedom. He was imprisoned from 1962 to 1990 for his struggle against the Apartheid. In 1993 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and in 1994 he became the first black president of South Africa. In 1999, when he left the presidency, he was engaged in the cause of human rights and those of several social organizations.
